CHEMISTRY, SPECIAL CHEMISTRY, PCR

  • Patient testing and test consultations are conducted by well qualified and very experienced Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians.
  • Development of diagnostic procedures, research, and over-all direction for the department is provided by DLI's Medical Jackson L. Gates, M.D. FCAP, and Chris DeMoro, Chemistry Manager.
  • DLI has the highest degree of automation of any laboratory in the Southeast. More than 85% of Chemistry and Special Chemistry procedures are handled by robotics. The Roche VS II pre-analytical robot eliminates sampling errors and automatically archives all specimens for easy reflex testing. Samples are stored and refrigerated for 7 days after testing.
  • All Serum Chemistry Profiles (Roche Modular) and the majority of specialty testing procedures including Hepatitis and HIV markers are reported in less than 24 hours from the point the specimen is taken. Even highly technique dependent tests such as Protein Electrophoresis and Immunofixation Electrophoresis are completed within the same 24-hour interval they are received.
  • DLI offers a complete range of Immunoassay testing, Therapeutic Drug monitoring, Hormone assays, Infectious Disease Identification and other Specialized Testing
  • HIV Viral load assays are performed using Roche Amplicor PCR technology. Quantitative and UltraSensitive methods are available.
  • HCV Viral load assays and HCV Genotyping are performed using Roche Amplicor technology.
  • DLI has concentrated on specialized testing for the female patient population. DLI offers STAT testing of Estriol, Progesterone and Beta-HCG levels 24 hours a day and on Saturdays. Triple Screen Assays have 24 hour turn-around-time. Dimeric Inhibin A assays are now available.
  • Upper Respiratory Disease Management services are available through DLI with more than 180 allergens available. A single serum specimen can reveal the cause for complaints expressed by 30-35% of all patients seen by primary care physicians.
