Mobile Pathology Services
01/19/2007
Dear Physician:
In an effort to expand and broaden our services provided to the local community physicians, and to create a comradeship between physicians and DLI.s pathologists, Doctors Laboratory Inc. (DLI) would like to introduce to you mobile pathology services.
Mobile pathology services may be defined as a pathologist traveling to a physician.s office to provide an immediate pathologic diagnosis. The intended medical community includes surgeons, family physicians, obstetrics/gynecologists, radiologists, among others who may benefit from these services. These services would include fine-needle aspiration of breast, thyroid, lymph node, soft tissue mass, as well as ultrasound/CT guided aspiration biopsy of deep soft tissue mass including those of lung, liver, and kidney, etc.
During the procedure, the pathologist will assist the physician in preparation of slides (i.e. touch imprints, smears), with immediate staining of representative slides via Diff Quik method, to assess the adequacy of the specimen, and to give a preliminary diagnosis. A document of the preliminary diagnosis report will be signed by the pathologist, and given to the physician of record at the time of the procedure. This will be followed by a Final Anatomic Pathology Report.
Other services would include the pathologist assisting the physician with bone marrow biopsy/aspiration, preparation of smears and appropriate studies to include Flow-cytometry, and Cytogenetics (chromosome studies).
These mobile pathology services will be set up on an appointment basis or stat if needed, on Monday and Tuesday, between the hours of 2PM and 5PM. Dr. Gates will be the responsible pathologist providing these services. Dr. Gates has extensive experience in these procedures, and has performed these services for a number of doctors in the past with great success.
To schedule an appointment, please call Teresa, Brandi, or Dr. Gates.
